August 2001– At the start of the year 1900, the number of African South Africans was found to be 3.5-million according to the British colonial government census. By 1954, our African population had soared to 8.5-million — and by 1990, there were a full 35-million of us — all carefully managed, closely policed, counted, shunted around in homelands and townships — and all of us chafing and griping under the suppressive yoke of the Afrikaner Broederbond’s rigid racial segregation system.

During apartheid, our population grew apace however because we also had the benefit of the Boers’ medical knowledge and their excellent agricultural skills.

Our population growth and our average life expectancy in fact showed us Africans in South Africa to be in better than average health when compared to other Africans on the rest of the continent: in the decades prior to the official policy of apartheid, (which was started in 1948), the average life expectancy of African South Africans was only 38 years.

However, during the last decade of the apartheid era from 1948 to 1994, our average life expectancy had risen to 64 years — on a par with Europe’s average life expectancy. Moreover, our infant death rates had by then also been reduced from 174 to 55 infant deaths per thousand, higher than Europe’s, but considerably lower than the rest of the African continent’s.

Deaths due to political violence during apartheid:

Max Coleman’s authoritative book analyses all deaths due to political violence from 1948 to 1994 in South Africa and Namibia.

According to the HRC statistics, 21,000 people died in political violence in South Africa during apartheid – of whom 14,000 people died during the six-year transition process from 1990 to 1994. The book lists the number of incidents, dates, and those involved.

This includes SA Defence Force actions, for instance the 600 deaths at Kassinga in Angola during the war in 1978.

Of those deaths, the vast majority, 92%, have been primarily due to Africans killing Africans — such as the inter-tribal battles for territory: this book’s detailed analyses of the period June 1990 to July 1993 indicates a total of 8580 (92%) of the 9,325 violent deaths during the period June 1990 to July 1993 were caused by Africans killing Africans, or as the news media often calls it, “Black on Black” violence – hostel killings, Inkatha Freedom Party versus ANC killlings, and taxi and turf war violence.

The activities of the Civil Cooperation Bureau as outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, were also included in these figures.

The security forces caused 518 deaths (5.6%) throughout this period.

And again, during the transitional period, the primary causes of deaths were not security forces nor white right-wing violence against blacks, but mainly due to “black-on-black necklace murders”, tribal conflict between the ANC-IFP, bombs by the ANC and PAC’s military wings in shopping centers, landmines on farm roads, etc.

After apartheid:

The present AIDS-HIV epidemic — against which the Mbeki-regime undertakes no action and still is publicly failing to properly acknowledge — the World Health Organisation estimates that more than 6-million African South Africans will be dead within the forthcoming decade. And the Mbeki-led ANC regime, which could have undertaken a huge prevention campaign such as Uganda’s a long time ago, has done nothing to stave off this terrible death rate.

SA hospitals “becoming places of death” -

In November last year it was being reported in The Star that South African hospitals are becoming places for dying — instead of healing. In June this year, it was reported that our cemeteries were filling up so rapidly that upright funerals were being contemplated to save space. Still, AIDSs is not being spoken about at our funerals, and the silence and utterly unscientific public statements about HIV-Aids from Mbeki [JdN: black president of RSA for years after Nelson Mandela] continue unabated while our people are dying.

Democratic Alliance spokesman Jack Bloom warned late last year that the 20% rise in deaths over the past four years among patients treated at Johannesburg Hospital could only be blamed on the high crime rate and the very serious decline in patient care.

Why is our patient care so poor now, and our crime rate so high? The answer is simple: our public funds are being looted by the ANC hierarchy. And the police seem helpless to stop it.

Tuberculosis funds looted:

On July 10, 2001, the SA health department announced that it was going to stop R6.6-million in annual funding to the SA National Tuberculosis Assocation because of the ongoing looting of its funds and the lavish lifestyles of its (African) executives, who award themselves R400,000 annual salaries [JdN: eight Rands are one US dollar, so $50,000] and spend R5000 a month on cellphone calls alone… while millions of South African TB patients go untreated and are wasting away of a deadly, but curable disease.

During apartheid, please note that the SANTA executives were seen to be extremely frugal with the governments’ funding — that many thousands of patients were cured annually, and that many doctors and nurses even VOLUNTEERED their services free of charge.

The question is this: “why is this man still CEO of SANTA? Why has he not been fired on the spot?”

Violent deaths from 1994 to 2000:

And the SA Police reports this month — access their website’s statistics at http://www.saps.org.za— that a total of 174,220 people died violent deaths, from crime-related violence, between 1994 [JDN: THE END OF WHITE RULE] and the year 2000.

So my question is this: “did apartheid ever kill as many Africans as are now being killed by the deliberate neglect and looting of our tax funds by the current, supposedly democratic Mbeki regime?”

In letter, Farrakhan accuses Jews of hurting blacks

(JTA) -- Minister Louis Farrakhan in a letter addressed to U.S. Jewish organizations accused Jews of hurting blacks and called for dialogue to "repair" the damage.

The Nation of Islam leader sent the letter, as well as a two-volume copy of "The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews" by the Nation of Islam Historical Research Team, which he said proves "an undeniable record of Jewish Anti-Black behavior," the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

"We could charge you with being the most deceitful so-called friend, while your history with us shows you have been our worst enemy," he reportedly wrote in the letter, dated June 24. In the past, Farrakhan has called Judaism a "gutter religion."

The letter was sent to several Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the American Jewish Committee, and the Orthodox and Reform movements, according to the AP.

Farrakhan called for dialogue with Jewish groups and their supporters.

"This is an offer asking you and the gentiles whom you influence to help me in the repair of my people from the damage that has been done by your ancestors to mine," he wrote in the letter.

Abraham Foxman, ADL's national director, received a copy of the letter and the books.

"Never, in our more than 20 years of following Minister Louis Farrakhan, have we seen him so obsessively devoted to his hate crusade against Jews," Foxman said. "His anti-Semitism is obsessive, diabolical and unrestrained. He has opened a new chapter in his ministry, where scapegoating Jews is not just part of a message but the message.

"Dialogue does not begin with bigoted accusations. Farrakhan's call for dialogue with Jews is so outrageous and disingenuous that you can't believe anyone would take him seriously."

In a news release, the ADL pointed out that Farrakhan, in an address to followers in Atlanta on June 26, announced that he had sent the book to the media and members of the Obama administration.

He also continued to speak negatively about Jews.

"Today the Jewish people have developed a new strategy," Farrakhan said, according to the ADL release. "They have always tied themselves to black people. They attach themselves to our talent. They are the managers, the agents, and they are the accountants, and that's why our black artists loved fame and got fame, but died poor because somebody else got their money.

"No black man or woman becomes a multimillionaire without friendship in the Jewish community."

Marseilles and Arles are cities located in the south-eastern part of France, known as Provence.

Provence is a beautiful area from the southern French Alps to the sunny, sky-blue Mediterranean, boasting the French Riviera (or "Cote d'Azur, "azure [ = blue] coast”), and fields of lavender amidst golden mountains of light. Over 100,000 Americans and Brits live here, as did I in 2004-05. Here is the fountain at Aix-en-Provence, originally an old Roman city, still boasting thermal hot baths from Roman times.

Arles is located on the Rhône river close to its mouth. Marseilles is France’s largest port, and the second largest city in the country.

In both Germany and France, well-financed boys made a splash. They had plenty of money to travel around the country. Stephen had his “horse-drawn cart”. (per Harpur, supra) But no job, because he was 12 years old. So, did Stephen and Nicholas have support staff along? Someone to pay the bills? Of course they did. There were those “hangers-on” (per Harpur, supra). They were along on the trip, and as the pilgrims progressed, some children were KIDNAPPED!

PICKED OFF ALONG THE WAY

“Children originally numbering 20,000 were led by Nicholas to various locations in Italy with the hope of continuing to the Holy Land. By the time they arrived their number had been greatly diminished by hunger, exposure (they had crossed the Alps), kidnapping, and murder. PREYED ON BY SLAVE TRADERS WHO ACCOMPANIED THE GROUPS

“They were accompanied by many adults.” (Jonathan Riley-Smith, The crusades: a history, Continuum International Publishing Group, 2005, p 172) But these adult “hangers-on” were not doing a very good job of protecting the children.

“That Christian Europe of the Middle Ages feared the Jews is an established fact. Perhaps the widespread fear that Jews were scheming to abduct children, subjecting them to cruel rituals, even antedates the appearance of stereotypical ritual murder which seems to have originated in the 12th century. As for myself, I believe that serious consideration should be given to the possibility that this fear was largely related to the slave trade, particularly in the 9th and 10th centuries, when the Jewish role in the slave trade appears to have been preponderant.

ABDUCTIONS WERE FREQUENT

During this period, Jewish merchants, from the cities in the valley of the Rhône, Verdun, Lione, Arles and Narbonne, in addition to Aquisgrana, the capital of the empire in the times of Louis the Pious [Louis I]; and in Germany from the centres of the valley of the Rhine, from Worms, Magonza and Magdeburg; in Bavaria and Bohemia, from Regensburg and Prague – were active in the principal markets in which slaves (women, men, children and eunuchs) were offered for sale, by Jews, sometimes after abducting them from their houses. From Christian Europe the human merchandise was exported to the Islamic lands of Spain, in which there was a lively market. The castration of these slaves, particularly children, raised their prices, and was no doubt a lucrative and profitable practice.

JEWISH MERCHANTS SOURCING SLAVES FOR THE MUSLIM MARKET

The first testimony relating to the abduction of children by Jewish merchants active in the trade flowing into Arab Spain, comes down to us in a letter from Agobard, archbishop of Lyon in the years 816-840. The French prelate describes the appearance at Lyons of “a Christian slave, having escaped from Cordoba,” who had been abducted by a

“Leonese Jewish merchant twenty four years before, when he was a child, to be sold to the Moslems of Spain. His companion in flight was another Christian slave having suffered a similar fate after being abducted six years before by Jewish merchants at Arles. The inhabitants of Lyons confirmed these claims, adding that yet another Christian boy had been abducted by Jews to be sold into slavery that same year. Agobard concludes his report with a comment of a general nature; that these were not considered isolated cases, because in every day practice, the Jews continued to procure Christian slaves for themselves and furthermore subjecting them to “infamies such that it would be vile in itself to describe them”“. And so the two columns of children progressed southwards. Not towards Jerusalem, but rather in the direction of Marseilles. They were accompanied by “hangers-on”, but no guardians, and so their numbers were thinned considerably by kidnapping and murder along the way. (Connel, supra)

But sooner or later, what was left of the columns arrived in the Marseilles area. If they had been traveling towards Palestine, the route would have gone through Germany, down the Danube, and through the Balkans. But no, that wasn’t the plan.

While the Nicholas group from Germany was headed to Genua, some of the group “may have travelled west to Marseilles where, the story goes, they were deceived by two merchants [.....!!!] into embarking on ships from which many of them were sold into slavery in North Africa.”(Jonathan Riley-Smith, The Crusades: a History, Continuum International Publishing Group, 2005, p 172)

And so the remaining children arrived in the VERY area where “Jewish traders established in Marseilles and Garde Freinet offered good prices for slaves.” (Robin Blackburn, The Making of New World Slavery: from the Baroque to the modern, 1492-1800, Verso, 1997, p 43) The place where the Jewish Radhaniya traded silver coins struck in Islamic territories for the slaves. (Omeljan Pritsak, The Origin of Rus’, Volume One – Old Scandinavian Sources other than the Sagas, Harvard University Press, 1981, p 25) But these slaves came on their own, and no silver coins to buy them were necessary. Oh, there had been travel expenses and remuneration, I do suspect, for Stephen and Nicholas and their “hangers-on”, but that was just the cost of doing business.

“But then the unthinkable happened: the sea refused to part before them, and many became instantly disillusioned with Stephen and left. Those who stayed loyal to him, hoping that the miracle might yet happen, were then approached, it is said, by two local merchants whose actions and names, Hugh Ferreus and William Porcus.” “The two men offered to transport the children to the Holy Land free of charge, and the young crusaders, perhaps believing that God worked miracles in more than one way, gladly accepted the offer. Nothing more was heard of them for 18 years. Then in 1230, a survivor of the expedition, a young priest, returned to France from Egypt and related what had happened. The party had set out from Marseilles in seven ships, but two of them had been wrecked off the coast of Sardinia. There is no longer any debate. It has been conclusively shown that the Jewish people held a key role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the development of an Apartheid society in the United States of America.

A new book delivers massive pictorial evidence of Jewish involvement in the slave trade and its aftermath.

Different from the heavily footnoted previous publications “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews” Volumes One and Two, the Historical Research Department of the Nation of Islam has released 144 pages containing 283 Jewish slave sale ads reproduced from American newspapers across the country. “Jews Selling Blacks” displays posted bills, classified ads and flyers showing that Jews bought and sold whole plantations and marketed slaves ranging in age from infants to the elderly. Additionally, Jewish merchants arranged bank financing and various other payment options which in essence amounted to lay-away terms for their human cargo and subsequently enslaved labor force.

Jewish apologists often advance the discredited notion that according to the population, only a “modest” number of Jewish people owned slaves. Compared to what? Census figures do not tell the entire story. Certainly one individual, or family—especially possessing great wealth—can be responsible for large amounts of evil.

This is evident in places such as slave-era South Carolina. A foundation of mercantilism and the slave trade, it was the first state to declare its secession, leading to the formation of the Confederate States of America, which led to the Civil War. In the book, readers are shown that before New York became the population center for American Jews, during the slave era, Charleston, South Carolina was the center of Jewish population and their mercantile exploits.

For example, in December of 1839, Maurice Barnett, a slave dealer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana offered a 26-year-old slave named Osborn for sale. Osborn was described as “a mulatto, good carriage driver and waiter, active and handy at anything he is put to.” His wife Lucinda, 22, was also offered for sale. She was described as “very intelligent, food cook, washer and ironer.” Perhaps the most disconcerting portion of the advertisement was that the children, Commodore, age 6, Josephine, age 4, Henry “about 2 years of age” and Osborn Jr. “about 1 year of age” were also for sale. (p. 9) Keep in mind, many times, Black families would be torn apart and sold to different plantation owners. Quite often, husbands were split up from their wives, mothers separated from their children and children from their siblings.

An advertisement in the June 24, 1805 Charleston City Gazette contained an advertisement by Cohen & Moses offering “Twenty Prime AFRICAN SLAVES. Conditions, cash on delivery.” (p.11) In fact, several pages are devoted to slave advertisements by Cohen & Moses spanning several years. Another Jewish auctioneer, Jacob Cohen, a prominent slave dealer who ran Jacob Cohen and Co., also advertised extensively. Later, the company, Jacob Cohen & Son, according to the numerous advertisements that are a part of historical record, continued this legacy of genocidal human trafficking amassing great wealth at that time. Could the modern day Cohen & Co., the Philadelphia-based firm that according to a July 30, 2010 Bloomberg article “built itself into the second-largest manager of collateralized debt obligations” be connected in some way to the similarly named trading companies flourishing in the antebellum south?

An interesting bit of information shows that slave broker and auctioneer Thomas W. Mordecai, of Charleston was a founding member of the Reform Society of Israelites, the first Jewish reform movement in the United States. He later became a prominent religious and media official. (p. 80)

The demeaning language used in many of the slave sale advertisements, often by well-respected religious pillars of the Jewish community, such as Isaiah Isaacs, a slave owner of Richmond, Virginia, who founded Congregation Beth Shalome (p.112) demonstrate blatant disregard for the humanity of their Black slaves, who were sold alongside farm animals, furniture, liquor and often as “add-on” items when land ownership was transferred.

The Jewish people have established themselves as the quintessential and prototypical merchant class in American society. Specifically related to slavery, their dominance led the Jewish Encyclopedia to note, “The cotton-plantations in many parts of the South were wholly in the hands of Jews, and as a consequence, slavery found its advocates among them.”

They were so thoroughly integrated in the cultural realities of the racially segregated South that in 1813, Jewish constable Moses Levy reminded residents of the ordinance that required “All negroes or other Slaves working out on hire,” to wear a badge “conspicuously about their persons” comparable to the WWII Nazi-era yellow star that became symbolic of the dissolution of Jews in Germany over a century later. (p.133)

It was not until the revelation of the significant involvement of the Jews that their scholars (and their impish Black lackeys and mouthpieces) sought to highlight the actions of others (i.e., African chiefs, Arab traders, so-called “free” Blacks etc.) in an attempt to change the focus of the discussion and documented research.

It is strange that prior to the Nation of Islam’s research, those who had studied history and this critical aspect of the impact of the trans-Atlantic slave trade on American society were perfectly content allowing the blame to fall squarely on the shoulders of the White Anglo Saxon Protestants in the South.

Those who continue to be mystified by motive generated mythology and revisionist history are either intellectually incurious or purposefully lazy and have not properly utilized the meticulously crafted documentation provided by the Historical Research Department.

As stated earlier, there is no longer any debate. The evidence is overwhelming. The lies have been deconstructed.

This book is an important addition to any library, and in years to come, will be considered one of several publications responsible for yet another paradigm shift in the study of American history thus leading to the proper contextualization and understanding of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

How Goldman gambled on starvation

Speculators set up a casino where the chips were the stomachs of millions. What does it say about our system that we can so casually inflict so much pain?

By now, you probably think your opinion of Goldman Sachs and its swarm of Wall Street allies has rock-bottomed at raw loathing. You’re wrong. There’s more. It turns out that the most destructive of all their recent acts has barely been discussed at all. Here’s the rest. This is the story of how some of the richest people in the world – Goldman, Deutsche Bank, the traders at Merrill Lynch, and more – have caused the starvation of some of the poorest people in the world.

It starts with an apparent mystery. At the end of 2006, food prices across the world started to rise, suddenly and stratospherically. Within a year, the price of wheat had shot up by 80 per cent, maize by 90 per cent, rice by 320 per cent. In a global jolt of hunger, 200 million people – mostly children – couldn’t afford to get food any more, and sank into malnutrition or starvation. There were riots in more than 30 countries, and at least one government was violently overthrown. Then, in spring 2008, prices just as mysteriously fell back to their previous level. Jean Ziegler, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, calls it “a silent mass murder”, entirely due to “man-made actions.”

Earlier this year I was in Ethiopia, one of the worst-hit countries, and people there remember the food crisis as if they had been struck by a tsunami. “My children stopped growing,” a woman my age called Abiba Getaneh, told me. “I felt like battery acid had been poured into my stomach as I starved. I took my two daughters out of school and got into debt. If it had gone on much longer, I think my baby would have died.”

Most of the explanations we were given at the time have turned out to be false. It didn’t happen because supply fell: the International Grain Council says global production of wheat actually increased during that period, for example. It isn’t because demand grew either: as Professor Jayati Ghosh of the Centre for Economic Studies in New Delhi has shown, demand actually fell by 3 per cent. Other factors – like the rise of biofuels, and the spike in the oil price – made a contribution, but they aren’t enough on their own to explain such a violent shift.

To understand the biggest cause, you have to plough through some concepts that will make your head ache – but not half as much as they made the poor world’s stomachs ache.

For over a century, farmers in wealthy countries have been able to engage in a process where they protect themselves against risk. Farmer Giles can agree in January to sell his crop to a trader in August at a fixed price. If he has a great summer, he’ll lose some cash, but if there’s a lousy summer or the global price collapses, he’ll do well from the deal. When this process was tightly regulated and only companies with a direct interest in the field could get involved, it worked.

Then, through the 1990s, Goldman Sachs and others lobbied hard and the regulations were abolished. Suddenly, these contracts were turned into “derivatives” that could be bought and sold among traders who had nothing to do with agriculture. A market in “food speculation” was born.

So Farmer Giles still agrees to sell his crop in advance to a trader for £10,000. But now, that contract can be sold on to speculators, who treat the contract itself as an object of potential wealth. Goldman Sachs can buy it and sell it on for £20,000 to Deutsche Bank, who sell it on for £30,000 to Merrill Lynch – and on and on until it seems to bear almost no relationship to Farmer Giles’s crop at all.

If this seems mystifying, it is. John Lanchester, in his superb guide to the world of finance, Whoops! Why Everybody Owes Everyone and No One Can Pay, explains: “Finance, like other forms of human behaviour, underwent a change in the 20th century, a shift equivalent to the emergence of modernism in the arts – a break with common sense, a turn towards self-referentiality and abstraction and notions that couldn’t be explained in workaday English.” Poetry found its break with realism when T S Eliot wrote “The Wasteland”. Finance found its Wasteland moment in the 1970s, when it began to be dominated by complex financial instruments that even the people selling them didn’t fully understand.

So what has this got to do with the bread on Abiba’s plate? Until deregulation, the price for food was set by the forces of supply and demand for food itself. (This was already deeply imperfect: it left a billion people hungry.) But after deregulation, it was no longer just a market in food. It became, at the same time, a market in food contracts based on theoretical future crops – and the speculators drove the price through the roof.

Here’s how it happened. In 2006, financial speculators like Goldmans pulled out of the collapsing US real estate market. They reckoned food prices would stay steady or rise while the rest of the economy tanked, so they switched their funds there. Suddenly, the world’s frightened investors stampeded on to this ground.

So while the supply and demand of food stayed pretty much the same, the supply and demand for derivatives based on food massively rose – which meant the all-rolled-into-one price shot up, and the starvation began. The bubble only burst in March 2008 when the situation got so bad in the US that the speculators had to slash their spending to cover their losses back home.

When I asked Merrill Lynch’s spokesman to comment on the charge of causing mass hunger, he said: “Huh. I didn’t know about that.” He later emailed to say: “I am going to decline comment.” Deutsche Bank also refused to comment. Goldman Sachs were more detailed, saying they sold their index in early 2007 and pointing out that “serious analyses … have concluded index funds did not cause a bubble in commodity futures prices”, offering as evidence a statement by the OECD.

How do we know this is wrong? As Professor Ghosh points out, some vital crops are not traded on the futures markets, including millet, cassava, and potatoes. Their price rose a little during this period – but only a fraction as much as the ones affected by speculation. Her research shows that speculation was “the main cause” of the rise.

So it has come to this. The world’s wealthiest speculators set up a casino where the chips were the stomachs of hundreds of millions of innocent people. They gambled on increasing starvation, and won. Their Wasteland moment created a real wasteland. What does it say about our political and economic system that we can so casually inflict so much pain?

If we don’t re-regulate, it is only a matter of time before this all happens again. How many people would it kill next time? The moves to restore the pre-1990s rules on commodities trading have been stunningly sluggish. In the US, the House has passed some regulation, but there are fears that the Senate – drenched in speculator-donations – may dilute it into meaninglessness. The EU is lagging far behind even this, while in Britain, where most of this “trade” takes place, advocacy groups are worried that David Cameron’s government will block reform entirely to please his own friends and donors in the City.

Only one force can stop another speculation-starvation-bubble. The decent people in developed countries need to shout louder than the lobbyists from Goldman Sachs. Ladies and gentlemen, these people set, they opened the doors, they gave us the right, and today, ladies and gentlemen, in our cities and public schools we have fifty percent drop out. In our own neighborhood, we have men in prison. No longer is a person embarrassed because they’re pregnant without a husband. No longer is a boy considered an embarrassment if he tries to run away from being the father of the unmarried child.

I’m talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was two? Where were you when he was twelve? (applause) Where were you when he was eighteen, and how come you don’t know he had a pistol? And where is his father, and why don’t you know where he is? And why doesn’t the father show up to talk to this boy?

The church is only open on Sunday. And you can’t keep asking Jesus to ask doing things for you. You can’t keep asking that God will find a way. God is tired of you. God was there when they won all those cases. 50 in a row. That’s where God was because these people were doing something. And God said, “I’m going to find a way.” I wasn’t there when God said it… I’m making this up. But it sounds like what God would do.

We cannot blame white people. White people… white people don’t live over there. They close up the shop early. The Korean ones still don’t know us as well…they stay open 24 hours.

50 percent drop out rate, I’m telling you, and people in jail, and women having children by five, six different men. Under what excuse, I want somebody to love me, and as soon as you have it, you forget to parent. Grandmother, mother, and great grandmother in the same room, raising children, and the child knows nothing about love or respect of any one of the three of them. All this child knows is “gimme, gimme, gimme.” These people want to buy the friendship of a child….and the child couldn’t care less. Those of us sitting out here who have gone on to some college or whatever we’ve done, we still fear our parents. And these people are not parenting. They’re buying things for the kid. $500 sneakers, for what? They won’t buy or spend $250 on Hooked on Phonics.

A Kenneth Clark, somewhere in his home in upstate New York…just looking ahead. Thank God, he doesn’t know what’s going on, thank God. But these people, the ones up here in the balcony fought so hard. Looking at the incarcerated, these are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake! Then we all run out and are outraged, “The cops shouldn’t have shot him.” What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand? I wanted a piece of pound cake just as bad as anybody else. And I looked at it and I had no money. And something called parenting said if get caught with it you’re going to embarrass your mother. Not you’re going to get your butt kicked. No. You’re going to embarrass your mother. You’re going to embarrass your family.

Are you not paying attention, people with their hat on backwards, pants down around the crack. Isn’t that a sign of something, or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up. Isn’t it a sign of something when she’s got her dress all the way up to the crack…and got all kinds of needles and things going through her body. What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans, they don’t know a damned thing about Africa. With names like Shaniqua, Shaligua, Mohammed and all that crap and all of them are in jail. (When we give these kind of names to our children, we give them the strength and inspiration in the meaning of those names. What’s the point of giving them strong names if there is not parenting and values backing it up.)

Brown Versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person’s problem. We’ve got to take the neighborhood back. We’ve got to go in there. Just forget telling your child to go to the Peace Corps. It’s right around the corner. It’s standing on the corner. It can’t speak English. It doesn’t want to speak English. I can’t even talk the way these people talk. “Why you ain’t where you is go, ra,” I don’t know who these people are. And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. Then I heard the father talk. This is all in the house. You used to talk a certain way on the corner and you got into the house and switched to English. Everybody knows it’s important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can’t land a plane with “why you ain’t…” You can’t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. There is no Bible that has that kind of language. Where did these people get the idea that they’re moving ahead on this? Well, they know they’re not, they’re just hanging out in the same place, five or six generations sitting in the projects when you’re just supposed to stay there long enough to get a job and move out.

Now look, I’m telling you. It’s not what they’re doing to us. It’s what we’re not doing. 50 percent drop out. Look, we’re raising our own ingrown immigrants. These people are fighting hard to be ignorant. There’s no English being spoken, and they’re walking and they’re angry. Oh God, they’re angry and they have pistols and they shoot and they do stupid things. And after they kill somebody, they don’t have a plan. Just murder somebody. Boom. Over what? A pizza? And then run to the poor cousin’s house. They sit there and the cousin says “What are you doing here?” “I just killed somebody, man.” “What?” “I just killed somebody, I’ve got to stay here.” “No, you don’t.” “Well, give me some money, I’ll go…” “Where are you going?” “North Carolina.” Everybody wanted to go to North Carolina. But the police know where you’re going because your cousin has a record.

I’m saying Brown Vs. Board of Education. We’ve got to hit the streets, ladies and gentlemen. I’m winding up, now , no more applause. I’m saying, look at the Black Muslims. There are Black Muslims standing on the street corners and they say so forth and so on, and we’re laughing at them because they have bean pies and all that, but you don’t read “Black Muslim gunned down while chastising drug dealer.” You don’t read that. They don’t shoot down Black Muslims. You understand me. Muslims tell you to get out of the neighborhood. When you want to clear your neighborhood out, first thing you do is go get the Black Muslims, bean pies and all. And your neighborhood is then clear. The police can’t do it.

I’m telling you Christians, what’s wrong with you? Why can’t you hit the streets? Why can’t you clean it out yourselves? It’s our time now, ladies and gentlemen. It is our time. And I’ve got good news for you. It’s not about money. It’s about you doing something ordinarily that we do—get in somebody else’s business. It’s time for you to not accept the language that these people are speaking, which will take them nowhere. What the hell good is Brown V. Board of Education if nobody wants it?

What is it with young girls getting after some girl who wants to still remain a virgin. Who are these sick black people, and where did they come from, and why haven’t they been parented to shut up? To go up to girls and try to get a club where “you are nobody..,” this is a sickness, ladies and gentlemen, and we are not paying attention to these children. These are children. They don’t know anything. They don’t have anything. They’re homeless people. All they know how to do is beg. And you give it to them, trying to win their friendship. And what are they good for? And then they stand there in an orange suit and you drop to your knees, “He didn’t do anything, he didn’t do anything.” Yes, he did do it. And you need to have an orange suit on too.

We have to begin to build in the neighborhood, have restaurants, have cleaners, have pharmacies, have real estate, have medical buildings instead of trying to rob them all. And so, ladies and gentlemen, please, Dorothy Height, wherever she’s sitting, she didn’t do all that stuff so that she could hear somebody say “I can’t stand algebra, I can’t stand…” and “what you is.” It’s horrible.

Basketball players, multimillionaires, can’t write a paragraph. Football players, multimillionaires, can’t read. Yes. Multimillionaires. Well, Brown v. Board of Education, where are we today? It’s there. They paved the way. What did we do with it? The white man, he’s laughing, got to be laughing. 50 percent drop out, rest of them in prison.

You got to tell me that if there was parenting, help me, if there was parenting, he wouldn’t have picked up the Coca Cola bottle and walked out with it to get shot in the back of the head. He wouldn’t have. Not if he loved his parents. And not if they were parenting! Not if the father would come home. Not if the boy hadn’t dropped the sperm cell inside of the girl and the girl had said, “No, you have to come back here and be the father of this child.” Not: “I don’t have to.”

Therefore, you have the pile up of these sweet beautiful things born by nature raised by no one. Give them presents. You’re raising pimps. That’s what a pimp is. A pimp will act nasty to you so you have to go out and get them something. And then you bring it back and maybe he or she hugs you. And that’s why pimp is so famous. They’ve got a drink called the “Pimp-something.” You all wonder what that’s about, don’t you? Well, you’re probably going to let Jesus figure it out for you. Well, I’ve got something to tell you about Jesus. When you go to the church, look at the stained glass things of Jesus. Look at them. Is Jesus smiling? Not in one picture. So, tell your friends. Let’s try to do something. Let’s try to make Jesus smile. Let’s start parenting. Thank you, thank you.

The prime minister who wanted total geographic separation — with semi-independent black countries — Hendrik Verwoerd, was suspiciously assassinated right on the floor of the parliament in the 1960s.

Amongst the emails I found a batch from some crank, with a batch of pictures mainly from the lower Fox Street end of Johannesburg, near the old Anglo-American head office. With these pictures he was trying to persuade me that the city was actually wonderful and I was just a liar etc. etc.

Well, as anyone who is familiar with Johannesburg knows, of course the part of the city around the AAC offices and lower Fox Street is almost (but not quite) the same as it always was.

In fact, one could actually say that the whole city used to look a bit like that.

The fact that private enterprise has managed to more or less keep that one section like it was, merely emphasises the mess of the rest of the city!

Anyway, the one valuable thing that my crank friend did send me, was a picture of a ‘rescued’ building in Marshall Street. This, he said, was proof that the city was being rejuvenated.

According to my IDASA friend, the same corner now looks like this: a cheap restaurant, which nonetheless has a coat of paint:

Now I Though, let’s give credit where credit is due, that is an improvement, even if that is a ‘restaurant’ in which I would not want to eat.

But then to my astonishment, the very next picture my IDASA friend sent me was this one, which is the building right next to the ‘refurbished’ eatery. You can see the end of the ‘restaurant’:

Oh dear, it seems as if the slum was not quite eradicated after all! Tough luck, IDASA sock-puppet, try again next time! Still, thanks for the effort.
